The mobility concept at the Behringwerke site in Marburg is excellent, and this has now been officially recognised: the Pharmaserv team has won the People category of the Innovation Award at the national C4PO Facility Management Congress for its comprehensive mobility master plan.
How do you optimise traffic when thousands of people come to the Behringwerke site to work every day? How do you motivate people to take their bikes or use public transport? How do you create safer, more environmentally friendly traffic? These are questions that Pharmaserv, as the operator of the Behringwerke site, has been dealing with intensively in recent years. The answers are now set out in the Mobility Master Plan – a comprehensive, long-term concept. ‘We are delighted that the success of our plan has now been independently recognised – it's a great honour,’ says Elisa Fritsch. ‘Of course, it was and is a lot of work to develop and implement a strategy like this. We have held countless discussions – with our employees, with the companies at the site, with the city of Marburg.’ Pharmaserv set up a separate working group with the companies at the Behringwerke site so that the needs of all parties could be taken into account. There were three main objectives: to make traffic as environmentally friendly and as safe as possible, while always keeping the needs of users and people in the surrounding area in focus.
New services for cyclists and carpooling
The Pharmaserv team has since successfully implemented many of the measures. ‘Many employees had wanted better conditions for cyclists,’ says Elisa Fritsch. ‘That's why we created additional plant access points with turnstiles for bicycles that lead directly from the forest paths into the plant. Incidentally, some employees now also use these access points to go for a walk or a jog during their lunch break.’ New bicycle parking facilities have been created to accommodate more bicycles. A carpooling app enables employees to find colleagues with the same route: ‘This is used a lot and has now made it possible for many people to carpool.’ In addition, Pharmaserv has optimised the internal bus route between and within the plant sections and better coordinated it with the public transport timetable.
Appreciation and motivation
Elisa Fritsch presented all of this to site operators at the C4PO Facility Management Congress – and it was met with great interest. ‘Many employees from other locations approached me and asked how we had implemented individual areas in concrete terms,‘ she says. “The response was, ”It's great that you have an integrated and comprehensive approach, not just individual components.’ The fact that we then also won the award was a great confirmation and appreciation.’ The award is now on display in the core team's office as an incentive and motivation to push the overall concept even further.
